Lighter than conventional mirror telescopes

Quicker set up with single arm pole

Maximum rigidity with minimalist structure

Bungee counter system for fine balance tuning

Additional weight ballast attachment possible

With truss tube or with single arm tube

Mirrors (available as built in mirrors in our telescopes)
LiteScope is available as Mount or as complete Telescope with buildt in 12” or 16"Newtonian Sets from ORION Optics UK,
made from Schott Suprax Low Expansion
Glass.

Built in optics plus optional ‘HILUX' coating ranging from 'Standard Grade' with better than diffraction limited quality up to 'Ultra Grade' better than 1/10 PV.
Focal ratios (with included Single Arm tube): F/4, F/3.8, F/3.6. (with included additional SixAliens truss tube set): F/3.4, F/3.2, F/3.0.

(A Coma Corrector will be a recommended accessory to reduce Newtonian Coma in very fast focal ratios)

We believe in ultra fast Newtonian systems in combination with our mount designs and materials also in terms of collimation stability.

We encourage throughout the purchase of built in Standard Grade Optics for excellent visual performance in MOUNTAIN Travel Telescopes
as they perform really excellent at attractive low prices.

(Available only with LiteScope MOUNTAIN Telescopes as 'built in' Mirrors)

Travel with Big Performance  &  Small luggage

Originally thought to be used with light and medium heavy
eyepieces to get luggage volume and transport weight down, LiteScope shows unexpected versatility.

Due to latest achievements in eypiece design as like the 100° ETHOS eyepieces range from Tele Vue USA, we also faced the question how far can payloads show on top of the single tube to get the 100° view with such a lightweight "bare bone" telescope.

The single tube is an essential design concept to reduce overall weight AND set up time AND complexity in such a visual travel and tour scope. On the other hand this also could reduce stiffness when you put any forces on the scope. We found out that these showing limits does not limit the joy of practical observing since collimation stability can be compared with many normal Newtonians or Dobsonians at the end of the day within certain parameters.
The LiteScope MOUNTAIN flex characteristics (elongation and set back)  under forces is surprisingly confident for safe observing experience.

LiteScope MOUNTAIN and LiteScope TRAVEL single arm structures at faster ratios than F/4 will give full benefits from this minimalist design showing a versatile and handy visual deepsky instrument.

The NCLT base also for slower ratios up to F/5 or when you intend to use very heavy eypieces plus Paracorr at F/4, you can upgrade your single arm scope with a new "E-design"- truss tube assembly
onEalien or the 6 trunnion truss tube assembly siXalien with a very light composite top ring and 3 vane spider.       siXalien comes already included with  ultimate space siXalien will allow to extend focal ratios up to about F/5 and the onEalien truss reinforcement assembly for the single arms will allow higher payloads and expand the sweetspot windows of ideal collimation for virtually all altitudes.

Manual tracking at high powers as like with any excellent classic Dobsonians

On Travel

We recommend the lighter Tele Vue Nagler Eyepieces for a great visual deepsky wide field EP range on trips abroad, when you also prefer to safe luggage weight.
Perhaps consider the purpose of ca. 8-24mm Zoom EPs for biking or hiking trips for saving still more weight in the luggage.

See also Al Nagler's recommendations for EPs on small Dobs.

F/3.8 or faster scopes may also require the Coma Corrector in addition.

(We can furtherly increase pole stiffness in single arm tubes  if you don't mind a bit more overall weight if the purpose of rather heavy eyepieces is intended.)

Travel Groups

No qeueing anymore behind one big scope or observatory. One scope per traveller or per two travel guests is possible with LiteScope. Travel agents who will offer LiteScope astro travel camps will soon be featured in this website.

Doug Dolginow, Maryland USA about 12" F/3.8 IYA MOUNTAIN

"I just got back from the Winter Star Party 2010 in Florida and using the Mountain 12".
My simple summary is fantastic, excellent, superb.  I had the best time using this scope and found its performance to be outstanding.

I assumed with a travel scope this light and simple, there would be compromises and performance would be tolerable to trade off on its transportability.  It turned out to be much, much better than just tolerable.  It performed really well and was so much fun.  I will write up a full impression later and send it to you and am planning to do a review for Cloudy Nights if that is OK with you.

I had no problem with the pole assembly and everything else
worked perfectly.  Easy to put together and take apart after I had done it once.  I used the Ethos 8, 13, 17 and they were perfect.  Very easy to travel with.

Observing with LiteScope MOUNTAIN

There is not much difference to tell to any normal fast 12” Dobsonian telescopes and you will get the same performance as in any such good telescope dependent from the mirror quality, your observing skills and performance of your eyes and the available atmospheric seeing. The diffraction pattern caused from the two blade secondary cage is not striking. A faint unidirectional splitted spike pattern compared to the most common radial spike patterns caused from classic 4 or 3 arm spider mounted secondaries.

LiteScope MOUNTAIN is a very compact and hence very low standing instrument. Its centre of mass is considerably low positioned so that the structure delivers most possible stiffness for a collimation stable and vibration free observing but without the usual heavy chunky equipment.

This will also mean that you find the focuser much deeper for your eyes than this is usually shown in classic telescopes of this aperture size. It will  require a deep observing position to sit on a small chair or on a mat on the ground, depending from the altitude angle.

Children love LiteScope MOUNTAIN telescopes for its deep eyepiece position!

For longer observing in lower altitudes, you may choose a 90degree zenith mirror or similar optical accessory to achieve maximum observing comfort. This will limit again the maximum possible Eyepiece masses but mainly you might observe planets at such deeper positions and hence you will rather use best suitable eyepieces for planets, which are normally lighter than  those heavy 2” ultra wide angle deep sky eyepieces.

The Water ballast plus the virtual bungee counterweight ballast for fine trim will allow you to use eyepieces about up to 700 g or so.

If you want to observe e.g. with a Paracorr Coma Corrector AND with heavy eyepieces, or if you want to use a camera, you can purchase suitable plastic coated weight discs from us what will allow to use still heavier combinations without balance problems. When you want to use the LiteScope MOUNTAIN for mountain bike trips or hiking trips, it is an option to use lightweight eyepieces to avoid any extra ballast. For lightweight eyepieces up to 400g you may not need any ballast weight.

The single deflection bungee standard system (incl.) and the double deflection bungee system (upgrade) for fine tuning to best balance.

Enjoy the starry night in pure nature under clear skies with LiteScope MOUNTAIN - world’s lightest 12” Travel Telescope!
LiteScope  telescopes so far are designed for astronomical deep sky observations in darkness.
NEVER use it for visual daylight or even sun observations since this is not a solar telescope and can cause total instant blindness!

NEVER observe the moon visually without suitable filters! Ask your telescope shop dealer or local astronomy club for advices. Be responsible and look out when observing with unexperienced               people and never leave your instrument unattended or touched by small children or pets to avoid both: injuries and damages !
