NCLT - a mobile Telescope for darker Skies

'New Cambridge Lightweight Telescope' is a new Newtonian telescope design that allows easy access to ideal seeing places with bigger optics and
less overall weight to carry. It is suitable e.g. for families when a telescope should not be the most prominent item in the holiday luggage and ideal for
astronomers who live in big cities without a car or for motorbikers. Mountainbiking with the lighter NCLT MOUNTAIN versions is also possible.

It is a powerful visual instrument for astro photographers as a secondary instrument during exposures and it is great for schools to provide a most simple
transport and set up scope for student excursions.
We build NCLT mounts in a certain variety of structural materials and integral designs. The lighter mounts
will show comparable stiffness as like the heavier versions will show...
To achieve most possible weight reduction, we encrease amounts for fibres in least
possible amount of matrix resin and with diverse sandwiching-, filling-  and cambering techniques.

A telescope has not to hold equal static and dynamic forces as like an air-, land- or a naval vehicle for what composites were once invented for.
We concentrate on stiffness where it is mostly needed to achieve best possible statical results in our NCLT mounts.
A telescope with a total weight of
about 3.4 kg - 9kg but with 12" aperture is achievable with NCLT and certain components in sufficient durability and rigidity.

The purpose of the revolutionary cellular mirrors from
D r e a m C e l l u l a r , L L C is an upgrade option to allow a further significant weight cut down.
This is in particular interesting for scopes to go to distant or very high observing places. The further weight reduction in air travel luggage will mean significant
convenience. The technology of cellular blanks will certainly show a serious impact in future amateur astronomy and this is already visible.

The 16" mounts can be individually designed also to meet requirements of individual optical components weights. It makes sence e.g. to use heavier mount
parts also for heavier optics and both are normally cheaper in price also.
NCLT looks very different to classic mounts and contain much less structure weight
mass as in most conventional telescopes.

NCLT mounts holds the optics confidentially. Many customers, telescope experts and scope enthusiasts have confirmed this fact by own
evaluation.
Air turbulances stream over the grounds in a way which will expose this open telescope to less dust particles as higher standing open instruments - simply
because air speed is considerably lower towards the grounds and the particles which could sit down occur not more in average amount as in some inches
higher air layers.

For this reason NCLT should not be seen as "dust catcher" or "dew magnet" - not any more at least than any traditional open structure telescope what is placed
a few inches higher - which exists in hundred thousands around the world.

Iris baffle, dew shield, hidden dew heaters and similar accessories can be installed. Closed light shrouds from black Spinnaker Nylon are available soon.

Upgrades as like DSC or Dob Driver are possible in all NCLT telescopes.

  siXalien
truss tubes are offered as an extra assembly to fit on the 12" or 16" NCLT telescope base.
Ask for special offers when NCLT base is required solely with a
siXalien truss tube.

The NCLT mounts of MOUNTAIN 12" & TRAVEL 16" telescopes contain highest industry standard components as like IGUS bearings and high grade
alloy or stainless steel fasteners meeting with finest composites.

Smooth or grippy textured surface coatings to choose.

Clear UP coated Carbon surfaces or other finish qualities as like Car Varnish coatings on Airbrush Art Work is also possible on request.

Observing with LiteScope MOUNTAIN
observing positions observing positions observing positions observing positions

There is not much difference to tell to any normal fast 12” Dobsonian telescopes and you will get the same performance as in any such good
telescope dependent from the mirror quality, your observing skills and performance of your eyes and the available atmospheric seeing.

The diffraction pattern caused from the two blade secondary cage is not striking: a faint unidirectional splitted spike pattern compared to the
most common radial spike patterns caused from classic 4 or 3 arm spider mounted secondaries.

LiteScope MOUNTAIN is a very compact and hence very low standing instrument. The center of mass is to sitting considerably low so that the
structure delivers most possible stiffness for a collimation stable and vibration free observing but without the usual heavy chunky equipment.

You will find the focuser deeper for your eyes than this is usually shown in classic telescopes of comparable aperture sizes. Hence it will require a
deep observing position to sit on a small chair or on a mat on the ground, depending from the angle of altitude.

Children love LiteScope MOUNTAIN telescopes for its deep eyepiece position!

For longer observing in very low altitudes, you may choose a zenith mirror or similar optical accessory to achieve maximum observing comfort.
This will limit the maximum possible Eyepiece masses but mainly you might observe planets at such deeper positions and hence you will rather use
best suitable eyepieces for planets, which are normally lighter than  those heavy 2” ultra wide angle deep sky eyepieces.

The included Sand or Plumb lead ballast plus the virtual bungee counterweight ballast for fine trim will allow you to use eyepieces about up to 900 g or so.

If you want to observe e.g. with a Paracorr Coma Corrector AND with heavy eyepieces, or if you want to use a camera, you can purchase suitable plastic
coated weight discs from us what will allow to use still heavier combinations without balance problems.

When you plan to use the LiteScope MOUNTAIN for
mountain bike trips or hiking trips, it is an option to use lightweight eyepieces to minimize
packing weight.

For eyepieces up to 500g you may not need any ballast weight to counter the balance - the bungee counter system is sufficient for even Ethos Eyepiece
13 in F/3.8 when the primary mirror is a monolitical with 36mm thickness.

The single deflection bungee counter standard system (incl.) and the double deflection bungee counter system (upgrade) is for fine tuning to best
balance. Eyepiece change is not a problem and can be done without the scope loosing its position. The alitude wheel friction can be tuned.

Installation of Dob Driver, Argo Navis or the new smart Astro Fix sky locator is possible.

LiteScope
telescopes so far are designed for astronomical deep sky observations in darkness.   NEVER use it for visual daylight or even sun observations since this is not a solar telescope
and can cause total instant blindness !

NEVER observe the moon visually without suitable filters! Ask your telescope shop dealer or local astronomy club for advices. Be responsible and look out when observing with unexperienced
people and never leave your instrument unattended or touched by small children or pets to avoid both: injuries and damages !
